Synthesis - Fourth Issue / by Laurence Fuller

This is the fourth and final issue of my father's short-lived magazine Synthesis which he first published aged 21 as its founding editor. More than a foreshadowing of his later magazine Modern Painters; it is a unique look at sixties culture from the view point of anti-establishment artistic radicals, wanting reform through cultural engagement. Synthesis documents the rise of the avant-garde art movement, which of course Peter turned against later in life, despite being one its leading voices in his youth. The "Destruction Issue" is a provocative and insightful look at what was happening in London on the grass roots level of 60s youth culture and the beginnings of a Socialist art movement in England.
